I noticed that too. I wish there was only ten minutes of comericals making the show 40 mins instead of 40 Mins. Maybe NBC figures that since the computer technogly for the show costs a lot more they need to air more comericals. It couldn't cost anymore money then games shows like Wheel of Fortunate, Jeardopy, which give alway millions a year. Even Deal or No Deal must cost quite a bit of money because they are giving away a lot. I have another guess on Why maybe they put a lot of Advertisment on the show because they were not sure how will the show was going to do and they didn't want to give 50 minutes of airtime until they know the success. I can't understrand why it would cost a lot to create. Let's see most of the main characters like Carter Jerkins, Leighton Meester , Linsey Godfrey are new to acting and are not well known yet. I am not sure about LouAnne Cooper and the person that plays Catlin's Dad. Ric Reitz is somewhat will known but I am not sure if he is well known like Tom Hanks etc. I think most of Ric Reitz income comes from writing comericals, acting in comericals and writng children's programs. I guess like Lake Bell is somewhat known because he has appeared on Weekend Today and the Tonight Show but I don't think she is Julia Roberts well known. Rick Fergusson I don't know about. The Pates are Stephen Spellberg well known. Maybe they need to make a good amount of money to pay the crew espically since they have to use a lot of special effects. They proabbly means they have to use specialists to create these effects which cost a lot of money. As far the actors go I would they aren't big budget actors even the guess stars seem to unknown. I hope if there is a next season that the show will around 50 to 55 minutes and not 40 minutes. I know I would rather not see comericals at all but NBC is a local channel and there it is free to watch. They need to somehow bring Income. I have an idea sell a sponsorships each week to make Surface comerical free each for a hour and before and after the show give these companies each airtime but I know this won't happen unless Surface has etremely High ratings. I am sure if a show has high ratings then adveristing most cost more for that time slot.

I just realized something, an half hour show only has 8 minutes of commercials. I don't understand why NBC has 20 Minutes of Chimerical on the show surface. I realize NBC has to make a profit but isn't a thirty second comerical of anywhere from 100,000 to one dollars. Lets say a prime-time commercial costs at last S500,000 for thirty seconds * I would say NBC makes at around 1 million dollars to couple a couple million dollars. If they have to have 20 Min's of commercials they aren't doing a good job at attracting Advertising. I don't any other hour shows that have 20 Min's of Commercials. Do you?

Josh, I have one word for you... Tivo.
Tivo viewers FF through 75% of commercials. I'm probably in the 95% range.
BTW - The average hour of programming in the UK has 12 minutes of commercials.
